A driver with a sticker on his car saying "Sorry officer I thought you wanted a race" has been branded an idiot after he was arrested following a police pursuit.

Durham Police said the car crashed following a pursuit in the Murton and Rainton areas and the motorist was arrested.

The force's roads policing unit Twitter account said: "Vehicle pursued around Murton and Rainton. Vehicle crashed driver arrested. He had this sticker on the rear. #Idiot"

The tweet included a photo of the back of the silver car with a sticker saying "Sorry officer I thought you wanted a race."
