Here’s the blushing bride (but is that the British PM asleep on her bed?)

David Cameron's sister-in-law posts picture of napping Prime Minister on Instagram website used by millions.

HOLDING a glass of champagne as she prepares for her big day, it is a picture of a bride-to-be that will be familiar to any woman who has walked down the aisle.

Except, that is, for the small matter of a slumbering Prime Minister on the four-poster bed in the background.

With a ministerial red box beside him, a barefooted David Cameron took the opportunity to crash out in the bridal suite before the wedding of his sister-in-law Alice Sheffield a fortnight ago.

The photograph was posted on the social media website Instagram by Emily Sheffield — Samantha Cameron’s sister and Alice Sheffield’s half-sister — where it can be viewed by anyone with an Instagram account.

The Prime Minister, who is said to value the chance to “chillax” at weekends, had just returned from the G20 summit in St Petersburg when the photograph was taken.

He later changed into a suit and tie to accompany his wife to Miss Sheffield’s wedding to Etienne Cadestin at Sutton-on-the-Forest Parish Church near York.

The red box in the photograph is believed to be the same one he left unattended on the 7.44am train from King’s Cross to York earlier the same day.

Passengers took photographs of the box, with the key still in the lock, while Mr Cameron visited the buffet car. Downing Street later insisted it was being watched by security officers.

Mr Cameron may be surprised that such a candid photograph of himself has been posted by a close relation a public website. Several people have added the picture to their list of “likes” on Instagram, and one user posted the comment: “Who IS that in the background?”

Emily Sheffield, Mrs Cameron’s younger sister, has 101 followers on Instagram to whom the picture will have been sent. The online photo-sharing website allows users to share pictures with a wider audience, in the same way that Twitter is used for short messages. It has more than 150 million registered users.

Alice Sheffield once worked for Mr Cameron as a correspondence secretary and is the founder of the cosmetics website Bare Faced Cheek. Her husband is a consultant for the estate agent Knight Frank. She is the daughter of Sir Reginald Sheffield and his second wife Victoria. Mrs Cameron, 42, and Emily Sheffield, 40, who is deputy editor of Vogue magazine, are Sir Reginald’s daughters by his first wife, Annabel Jones.

After the wedding, Mr Cameron was photographed enthusiastically taking his own snapshots of the bride and groom on his BlackBerry mobile telephone.

His attendance at the wedding meant he was unable to attend the Highland Games at Braemar, near Balmoral, with the Royal family, as is traditional.

Mr Cameron’s aides have said that he sometimes takes power naps to refresh himself when he is travelling during his long working days, which begin at 5am.
