Gunman kills six in Bratislava street attack
A gunman has killed six people and wounded 14 others in Bratislava, a Slovak news agency has reported.
The news agency TASR said the shooting took place mid-morning on the streets of the Devinska Nova Ves neighbourhood on the outskirts of the Slovak capital. It said the man, who has not been identified, opened fire on passers-by and shot through windows into buildings.
Local media reported later that the shooter may have killed himself, but police would not immediately confirm the report.
Dominika Sulkova, a spokeswoman for the Bratislava emergency medical service, said seven people were dead - four women and three men - and 14 others had been wounded. She could not confirm that the shooter was among the dead.
A three-year-old child was among the wounded, TASR quoted Dana Kamenicka, a Bratislava hospital spokeswoman, as saying.
Emergency crews blocked off the scene and authorities urged people to stay indoors.
Police made no immediate comment on the attack but were holding a news conference later.
