Group offers to sterilise UK drug addicts

Jerome Taylor

AN AMERICAN group that pays addicts to be sterilised is setting up a franchise in Britain.

Project Prevention has paid more than 3,500 US drink and drug addicts $300 (€220) to have either IUD (coil) implants or even full sterilisation.

Barbara Harris, the group's founder, has now founded a freephone number for UK addicts, who will be paid if they get themselves sterilised.

The move was condemned as "morally reprehensible" by Addaction, one of the UK's largest addiction charities. (© Independent News Service)
