Groom denies stunt claim over mother's cruel email to bride
The groom whose stepmother's vitriolic email about his fiancee became an internet sensation denied claims yesterday the affair was a publicity stunt.
Freddie Bourne set up a company catering for "dream" weddings a fortnight ago, just days before the email to his wife-to-be, Heidi Withers, was leaked on the internet.
Last night, speculation was mounting that the wedding had been cancelled over the furore.
Ms Withers' father, Alan, said he doubted whether the ceremony, followed by a reception at Berkeley Castle, in Gloucestershire, England, on October 13, would now go ahead. In her email, Carolyn Bourne derided the choice of wedding venue as "brash".
Mr Bourne broke his silence yesterday to say: "Our wedding is absolutely still going ahead. We are very much looking forward to it."
He insisted that the timing in relation to his business was an "unfortunate coincidence".
Last week, his stepmother attracted headlines around the world when her email to Ms Withers was leaked.
Characterising her as "vulgar", it subjected her table manners, conversation topics, morning lie-ins and choice of wedding venue to a savage point-by-point critique. (© Daily Telegraph, London)
