Grandmother airlifted to hospital and daughter arrested following stabbing
A grandmother has been airlifted to hospital and her daughter arrested following a stabbing.
Police in south Wales said they were called to a disturbance in Gwyrddgoed Road, Pontardawe, at 5.45pm.
Officers confirmed a local woman in her 30s has been arrested while a second older female was taken to hospital by helicopter.
While detectives have not released details of the pair's identity, sources confirmed they are mother and daughter.
A force spokesman said: "We are investigating a serious assault which occurred this evening in Pontardawe.
"A local woman has been taken to hospital with stab wounds. A local woman in her 30s has been arrested in connection with the incident."
Neighbours described the victim, who had been reportedly battling cancer, as being "covered in blood" when paramedics first arrived.
The Welsh Ambulance Service said it sent two rapid response vehicles and an ambulance to the scene.
Details of the injured woman's condition is not known.
South Wales Police said it was continuing to appeal for information.
