Friends of Prince William arrested in high-society New York bar brawl which saw reveller "bottled" by St Andrews graduate

A British socialite has been arrested in New York after she allegedly hit a clubgoer with a bottle of beer during a brawl.

Julia Kadioglu, 32, who has attended a number of society events in Manhattan, is said to have retaliated after her boyfriend Till Bechtolsheimer, 31, was allegedly shoved by another man while dancing in the Electric Room nightclub.

The victim Daniel Kurkowski, 27, suffered a cut to his head and pain in his hand after being struck with a bottle of Stella Artois lager, it is alleged.

Miss Kadioglu was arrested and led away from the venue in handcuffs. She denied being involved in the incident. Benjamin Yu, her lawyer, said: “My client insists on her innocence. She’s indignant she was even arrested.”

The row, reported in the New York Post, is said to have taken place in the Electric Room nightclub in the Dream Hotel in the Meatpacking district on January 19, a Sunday night.

Mr Bechtolsheimer, whose sister Laura won gold in the team dressage event at the 2012 London Games, runs his own investment company, Arosa Capital Management, and lives in New York.

He is the grandson of the German billionaire property magnate, Karl-Heinz Kipp, who founded the Massa chain of department stores.

His father, Wilfried, a horse trainer, and mother Ursula, moved to Ampney St Peter, Gloucestershire, when he was four. He also has two brother’s, Goetz and Felix, a former heroin addict.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are friends of his sister’s and attended her wedding to Mark Tomlinson, a professional polo player, in March last year.

Prince Harry also attended the wedding in the Swiss Alps as did Miss Kadioglu.

Mrs Tomlinson and her then fiancé attended the wedding of Prince William and the Duchess in April 2011.

Princes William and Harry have played polo with Mr Tomlinson, 30, for several years and the Prince of Wales is a close friend of his parents, Simon and Claire, who own the Beaufort Polo Club in Gloucestershire.

At the London Olympics in 2012 Mrs Tomlinson, along with Carl Hester and Charlotte Dujardin, won the gold medal in the Olympic team dressage event. She went on to win bronze in the individual event.

She was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire in the 2013 New Year Honours for services to equestrianism.

Miss Kadioglu attended St Andrews University at the same time as Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge and has a Master’s degree, in Economics and Middle East Studies.

She appears to have moved to New York recently and is working as a vice president of the derivatives and structured products arm of HSBC.

According to her Facebook page, Miss Kadioglu is a keen runner and fitness fanatic and appears to have competed in a number of triathlons.She also has attended a number of society events in Manhattan.

The incident is alleged to have taken place on Saturday, January 19.

Miss Kadioglu has been released without bail after her arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court, the New York Post reported.
