A group of firefighters more use to getting kittens out of trees were faced with the unusual task of rescuing a horse from a manhole.

Arriving at the scene of an accident, a unit of Czech firefighters were left baffled as they came across a horse stuck midway down a hole in the street.

The animal’s concerned owner raised the alarm after he could not get the panicking beast free.

Working together with bystanders and the owner of the horse, the fire crew tied a harness around the horse and were able to hoist the animal out of the hole using their fire truck.

Miraculously, the horse did not appear to have suffered any serious injuries and was able to be led away from the scene by its owner.
