The teacher stabbed to death in a Catholic secondary school in the UK in front of her pupils was married to an Irishman.
A 15-year-old pupil from Corpus Christi Catholic College in Leeds has been arrested after Anne Maguire (61), pictured, was fatally wounded in the attack in a classroom.
Mrs Maguire, a native of Yorkshire, was married to Don Maguire, understood to be from Co Monaghan. She had two children and had also adopted her sister's two children, when she died from cancer a number of years ago.
Grieving pupils, fellow teachers and others who knew her described Mrs Maguire as "inspirational" and a fantastic teacher. She had worked for more than 40 years in the school.
Fr Martin Moran, from Coleraine in Co Derry, knew the Spanish and religion teacher from his time as chaplain in the school. He told the Irish Independent that Mrs Maguire was "a fantastic teacher" who was "loved by generations".
