ENGLAND'S most prolific criminal has almost 600 convictions to his name, official figures have disclosed.

A further eight career criminals have been convicted more than 300 times, while dozens of others have been in court on more than 100 occasions.

Ministry of Justice data also shows that three criminals were convicted of three or more rapes and 29 others convicted of three or more firearms offences. Conservative MP Priti Patel, who obtained the figures, said: "These prolific criminals must be kept off our streets in the interest of public safety and face the punishments they deserve in prison."

Crispin Blunt, the justice minister, disclosed that the most prolific criminal had 567 convictions to his name, while 257 had more than 100 and 3,518 offenders had between 50 and 99 previous convictions. (© Daily Telegraph, London)
