Police have released footage of an elderly woman being attacked from behind and stamped on in a disgusting daylight attack.

The incident took place at 6.30am on June 13, not long after the woman (66)  withdrew money from an ATM in Leicseter.

A man can be seen running up behind her as she tries to go up steps. The woman started screaming for help, which scared the criminal away.

Since the brutal attack, the pensioner requested to maintain anonymity, but has recently spoken out in an attempt to catch her attacker.

"This was a terrible incident that happened to me, I cannot understand why it happened. I would like this person caught so it doesn’t happen to somebody else," she said.

"‘I hope that anybody with any information tells it to the police so this person can be caught."

Local police say that a number of inquiries, including the arrest and release of one suspect, have been carried out.

"This man had no regard for her safety and the long term effects of this assault have made her fearful of going out early on in the day and the pain she went through with the bruising," policeman Daniel Thorpe said.

"Whilst I appreciate that people may not be able recognise the man’s face from the footage and it’s been some time since the incident happened.

"I am hoping that the suspect has told someone about the incident and at the time they didn’t realise the seriousness of the attack."
