The Eiffel Tower has been closed to all visitors after a terror scare at the iconic French landmark.
The alarm was raised at approximately 9am after a man 'with a large backpack' was seen ascending the tower in Paris.
Anti-terror police attended the scene along with a helicopter.
"There's been a report of a man with a rucksack," police spokeperson said.
The tower has since been blocked off by police and tourists have been asked to stay clear of the attraction for the day.
Tourists queuing up outside the tower this morning were directed to the banks of the nearby River Seine.
Security at the tower has increased significantly since the Charlie Hebdo attacked in January.
