Depardieu flies in under radar after his 'oui oui' plane embarrassment

LEGENDARY French actor Gerard Depardieu is understood to be lying low in Ireland after causing outrage with a pre-take-off "oui oui" on a flight from Paris.

The film star shocked fellow passengers aboard a CityJet flight to Dublin on Tuesday night when he stood up shouting that he needed to relieve himself as the plane was about to take off.

But instead of waiting until flight AF5010 was at a cruising altitude when he would be permitted to use the toilet, the 'Green Card' star couldn't wait any longer and reportedly relieved himself in front of astonished passengers by urinating into an empty bottle at the back of the plane.

His cries of "je veux pisser!" -- I want to pee -- fell on deaf ears of the cabin crew, who told him three times that the toilet was off-limits until the plane, carrying 91 passengers and four crew, was airborne.

Depardieu was removed from the flight but he is understood to have flown into Ireland under the radar on another flight before news of the indiscretion spread yesterday.

It made headlines around the world and on social network Twitter after Paris radio station Europe 1 reported the incident.

A spokeswoman for the airline yesterday confirmed that the 62-year-old actor was taken off the flight by airport police at Charles de Gaulle Airport following the incident.

But she insisted he was not arrested or charged with any offence even though the 6.45pm flight was delayed by almost two hours after he left the plane and it was then cleaned.

The spokeswoman denied he boarded another CityJet flight -- however, the French media last night reported that he flew to Ireland on another flight following the debacle. His Paris-based publicist did not return calls from the Irish Independent yesterday.

Europe 1 reporter Noemie Mayaugon said the French were mortified by the incident.

"People think it's an embarrassment, that he was disgusting. They think he's acting like a spoiled diva," she told the Irish Independent last night.

The star and French vineyard owner, who has raised eyebrows in the past for his alcohol-fuelled antics, recently claimed that he hadn't touched a drop for the past two months.

He insisted yesterday that his bathroom "urgence" was the result of drinking a litre of water shortly before the flight.

But it's not the first time that his bladder has landed him in hot water, according to a report in 'France Soir' yesterday.

During what appeared to be drunken rant on live television against fellow French actor Juliette Binoche in May, Mr Depardieu abruptly broke off his interview with French television host Frederic Taddei stating he was off the loo because he couldn't hold it any longer.

Depardieu was due to arrive in Ireland on Tuesday to start filming the latest in the cartoon-inspired 'Asterix and Obelix' live action movie series, 'God Save Britannia', co-starring fellow French film legend Catherine Deneuve.

It is being shot in various locations in Co Wicklow, including Brittas Bay, Luggala and Annamoe; as well as Listoke Gardens in Drogheda, Co Louth; the Boyne in Slane, Co Meath; and The Burren in Co Clare.

Depardieu was not spotted on the set yesterday.
