Dancer to be quizzed about moments before ship hit rocks

Martin Evans

The Moldovan dancer at the centre of the mystery over why the Costa Concordia cruise ship ran aground is to be questioned by Italian prosecutors.

Domnica Cemortan (25) could be a key witness after it emerged she was dining with the ship's captain, Francesco Schettino (52), moments before the ship struck rocks and sank.

Ms Cemortan, who works as a translator for Costa Cruises but was a passenger at the time of the disaster, has denied that she and Captain Schettino are lovers.

However, prosecutors are keen to establish if the catastrophe could have been the result of the captain breaking rules in order to show off to his female guest. (© Daily Telegraph, London)
