Hours after he captained Portugal to semi-final defeat in the Confederations Cup in Russia, footballing star Cristiano Ronaldo unveiled his twins for the first time.

The Real Madrid superstar uploaded a picture of his daughter and son - reported to be named Eva and Mateo - to his Instagram page and wrote: 'So happy to be able to hold the two new loves of my life.'

The twins, who were born to a surrogate mother, join Cristiano Ronaldo Jr (7), who was born during a previous relationship.

Little is known about the twins, although unconfirmed reports in Portugal said they were born on June 8, well before the start of the Confederations Cup.

There are suggestions that Ronaldo could soon add another child to his family as his current girlfriend Georgina Rodríguez is reported to be five months pregnant.

However, the pair have not confirmed this.

"The President of the FPF and the Portugese National Team were informed before the Confederations Cup by the National Team captain, Cristiano Ronaldo, that he had been a father," read a statement.

"The athlete, despite the birth of his children, made a point of being in the service of the national team in a gesture that we must underline and praise".

The Real Madrid star is embroiled in a tax fraud case in Spain. The prosecutor claims Ronaldo knowingly used a business structure to hide his image rights income in Spain between 2011 and 2014.

Ronaldo has denied the charges.

The 31-year old has been linked with a return to Manchester United.
