Couple on manslaughter charge after boy (2) died from heroin overdose

A COUPLE have appeared in court charged with the manslaughter of a 23-month-old boy, after he died from a heroin overdose.

Emma Bradburn, 33, and Simon Jones, 29, both of the same address in Windsor Avenue, Penn, Wolverhampton, appeared at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court today.

They also faced a further charge of causing or allowing the death of a child.

Bradburn, wearing a black coat and top, and Jones, wearing a dark grey hoodie, spoke only to confirm their names, addresses and date of births.

Their solicitors indicated not guilty pleas to all the charges.

There was no application for bail and Bradburn and Jones were both remanded in custody.

The case has now been committed to the Wolverhampton Crown Court on March 7, 2013.

The two were arrested by West Midlands Police yesterday, following an investigation into the death of Daniel Jones, who was found dead earlier this year.

On May 29 paramedics were called to a house in Penn, at 6.15am, where they pronounced the boy dead at the scene.

The child's death was initially treated as unexplained, however the results of forensic tests showed he died from a heroin overdose.
