Council bids to prevent return to Dale Farm
The council overseeing the clearances of the UK's largest illegal travellers' settlement sent a legal team to the High Court today to seek an injunction preventing the reoccupation of the site.
Lawyers for Basildon Council are applying for orders against owners of caravans and former occupiers of plots at Dale Farm, Essex.
Council leader Tony Ball described the move as "routine practice following a site clearance and something we had always planned to do".
The council is asking Mr Justice Langstaff, sitting at London's High Court, to grant an injunction to prevent further residential use of the majority of the plots on the site.
The Dale Farm clearance, which began last month after a major police operation to remove protesters, followed a decade-long row over unauthorised travellers' plots on the six-acre site.
