A 15-year-old girl has died in labour as a result of complications caused by giving birth at such a young age.

Known only as Derya B, the girl was forced into an arranged marriage at the age of 14 in a religious ceremony in Turkey, according to Huriyet daily news.

Shortly after giving birth to her first child in a village in the Mukti district of Turkey, Derya complained on nausea and headaches.

She was then brought to a private hospital in the Turkish town of Batman where doctors diagnosed a brain haemorrhage.

The girl was admitted to hospital but died shortly afterwards.

It is understood that the complications Derya suffered were brought on by having a child at such young age.

'It is dangerous for a child bride to get pregnant. The mortality rate is higher in adolescent pregnancies," Gynecology expert Professor M.D. Aydan Biri told the Turkish paper.

Police are now investigating the circumstances of her death.
