British fears over email spying

MPs from Britain's intelligence watchdog will fly to Washington to seek guarantees that US spies are not snooping on Britons' emails.

Their visit comes after leaked US documents appeared to show that GCHQ, Britain's listening post, has been gathering intelligence from leading internet firms through America's National Security Agency.

The 'Guardian' said it had documents showing GCHQ has access to the US system, raising the prospect that Britain can circumvent restrictions on accessing individuals' communications.
