Woman in critical condition after 'horrific' attack in park
A young woman subjected to a "horrific" assault in a park is in a critical condition in hospital.
Police said the victim, aged in her 20s, was found in bushes near recycling bins around an hour after the attack in Leicester's Victoria Park.
The woman, who was found at about 12.40am on Tuesday, had suffered very serious injures.
Forensic teams are conducting a detailed examination of the scene where the woman was discovered, and a large area of the park has been cordoned off.
Detective Chief Inspector Rob Widdowson, who is leading the investigation, said: "This was an horrific assault and has left a young woman in an extremely serious condition in hospital.
"We urgently need to trace anyone who may have been in the area of Victoria Park late last night or in the early hours today and who may have seen something which can help us identify the person or people responsible for this terrible attack.
"I have a dedicated team of detectives working on the investigation and carrying out a number of lines of inquiry, including speaking to potential witnesses and looking through CCTV, but I need the public's help.
"I need to speak to anyone who was in the park between 11.30pm yesterday and 12.40am today.
"Did you see the assault take place? Did you see anyone loitering? Or did you see anyone walking, running, or cycling through?
"You may not think what you saw is significant, but we still want to speak to you."
Anyone with any information about the assault is asked to call Leicestershire Police on 101.
