Woman arrested (29) after remains of stillborn child found buried in back garden

A remains of a stillborn child have been found buried in a back garden.

Police said a 29-year-old woman had been arrested in connected with the discovery at a property in the St George's area of Yeovil in Somerset.

An Avon and Somerset Police investigation was launched last week after receiving information that a stillborn child may be buried there.

"Following police inquiries in the St George's area of Yeovil last week, we can confirm that remains have been located in the back garden of a property," a force spokesman said.

"These inquiries commenced following a disclosure that a stillborn child might be buried at this location. This is unconnected to the current tenant.

"Further forensic tests will now be carried out.

"A 29-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with this matter and has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

"We would like to thank the local community for their patience and support last week.

"As our inquiries are continuing, we would ask the public not to speculate on the circumstances surrounding this incident.

"We are continuing to work closely with the family concerned and helping them through this difficult time."
