Pedestrian standing on traffic island killed after being hit by Range Rover
A woman has died after she was hit by a Range Rover as she stood on a traffic island, Scotland Yard said.
The pedestrian in her 30s was pronounced dead at the scene near the Troxy events venue in Tower Hamlets, east London, shortly after midnight on Friday.
The Metropolitan Police said: "At this early stage of the investigation, it is believed that the victim was standing on an island in the middle of the road when she was struck by a white Range Rover Sport."
A 44-year-old male driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, the force added.
Officers were called to Commercial Road by the London Ambulance Service at about 11.25pm on Thursday.
The woman's next of kin have been informed but formal identification is yet to take place.
Witnesses should contact the appeal line on 0208 3453 4955.
