Man arrested after body of newborn found

A 30-year-old man has been arrested over the "unexplained" death of a newborn baby.

The body of the baby was discovered at an address in Wellington Court, Burnley, after police were called at about 3pm on Monday.

A spokeswoman for Lancashire Police said: "The death is currently being treated as unexplained.

"A 30-year-old man from Burnley has been arrested on suspicion of the concealment of the birth of a child contrary to Section 60 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861.

"A 26-year-old woman from Burnley is currently receiving medical treatment."

Inquiries into the incident are continuing, added the spokeswoman.
