Homeless man killed after tree fell on his tent while he was sleeping
A man killed when a tree fell on his tent while he was sleeping was homeless, police have said.
The 45-year-old who died in the accident in Edinburgh has not been named but was originally from Glasgow.
Investigators confirmed that the large tree, which crushed the tent in the city's Dean Village area, fell as a result of "natural occurrences".
A 35-year-old man also sleeping in the tent escaped with minor injuries following the accident in the early hours of Saturday.
The tent was pitched in woodland on the south bank of the Water of Leith.
Inspector Neill Whiteside said: "This appears to be a tragic set of circumstances which have led to a man losing his life and his next of kin have now been informed."
A report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.
