Body of baby found in UK park - police investigation launched

The body of a baby has been found in a park in Kent and concerns have now been raised for the safety of the child's mother.

Police in Kent are investigating after the remains of the infant were found in Broadway, Sheerness just before 1pm today.

The age and identity of the child is not yet known.

The area has been cordened off as a number of forensic tests are being carried out.

A statement issued by Kent Police said: "Officers are at the scene conducting enquiries and are keen to hear from anyone who may have information that can help them establish the circumstances.

"As part of their enquiries, officers are also keen to locate the mother of the child to ensure her wellbeing.

"Those that do come forward should know that the information will be handled in a sensitive way."
