A motorist who unwittingly sparked a major security alert outside ITV’s London studios returned to find his vehicle had been blown up by a bomb squad.
The area was cordoned off after officers on patrol spotted the white Skoda parked near the studios, believing it to be suspicious.
Photos taken after the vehicle was blown up using bomb disposal robots showed what appeared to be petrol canisters inside the vehicle.
ITV's Loose Women was briefly interrupted by the bomb scare as former Apprentice contestant Saira Khan was being interviewed.
Loose Women presenter Andrea McLean later told viewers: “There was nothing to worry about.
“We had a security lockdown earlier but that announcement was giving the okay.”
Police said the vehicle was later deemed ‘not suspicious’ after the bomb squad carried out the explosion.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “Officers on patrol on Coin Street came across a suspicious vehicle.
“We cordoned off the area around the vehicle and a controlled explosion was carried out.
“The vehicle has now been deemed as not suspicious.”
