An actress has filed a legal complaint for breach of privacy over internet rumours alleging a romantic liaison with French President Francois Hollande.
Mother-of-two Julie Gayet (40), who appeared in one of Mr Hollande's 2012 election commercials, filed the complaint with Paris prosecutors on March 18, it emerged yesterday.
Mr Hollande (58) has already suffered media speculation over his relationship with first lady Valerie Trierweiler. The pair are unmarried but have been together for several years.
Mr Hollande's office refused to comment on the legal suit.
In a statement, Gayet's lawyer Vincent Toledano said there was no basis to the rumours.
"The actress Julie Gayet has instructed my chambers to take legal action over the rumour, widely disseminated on the internet, suggesting, with no foundation, that she has a romantic relationship with the president of the republic," the statement said.
"There is nothing to justify these claims."
Gayet is a TV and cinema actress who has appeared in more than 50 films.
