A 24-year-old man is in a life-threatening condition in hospital after being stabbed at a nightclub.

West Midlands Police said the critically-injured victim and two other men - who are also aged in their 20s, suffered stab wounds in Birmingham city centre in the early hours.

Officers were called to the China Red club on Wrottesley Street shortly after 4am to reports that a stabbing had taken place.

A police spokesman said: "Two men aged 24 and a 25-year-old were taken to hospital and continue to be treated for stab wounds.

"Just after 4.30am, a 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and a 21-year-old man on suspicion of affray."

The spokesman added: "Officers have cordoned off an area on Ladywell Walk whilst the assault is investigated.

"Early indications suggest that this was not a random attack."
