Eleven people were rushed to hospital after a teenage girl allegedly caused a four-car collision while trying to kill a spider.

Kansas Highway Patrol says the 17-year-old girl let go of her steering wheel to swat a spider on her lap when the vehicle veered into an oncoming car.

"While she was driving she looked down, she saw a spider on her lap, she panicked and let go of the steering wheel with both hands and started swatting at the spider," said Kansas Highway Patrol Master Trooper Dave Jacobs.

A second vehicle was stuck when the teen’s car bounced off the first.

Hutchinson News reports that there were three people in the first car and five people in the second vehicle.

“Debris from the second collision struck and damaged another car,” police added.

“All those involved were taken to Great Bend Regional Hospital for treatment.”

KHP troopers say the incident happened shortly after 1:30 pm.
