Dairy farmer gets death sentence

A Chinese dairy farmer has been sentenced to death for lacing her rival's milk supply with industrial salt, causing the deaths of three young children.

A court found Ma Xiuling guilty of deliberately adding nitrite to the milk of a dairy farming couple in revenge for some business disputes. Ma's husband, Wu Guangquan, was sentenced to life in prison for buying the poison. The couple have lodged appeals.

Killer at Virginia Tech 'acted alone'

THE gunman who killed a policeman and then himself at the Virginia Tech university campus was acting alone, state police said yesterday.

Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said the attacker ran from the scene where he shot the officer and changed clothes before shooting himself in a car park half a mile away. The gunman's identity has not been released.

Hulk Hogan to sue ex-wife over book

Wrestler Hulk Hogan is suing his ex-wife, claiming she lied and defamed him in her new book.

Mr Hogan filed the 18-page lawsuit in Florida claiming his ex-wife Linda Bollea wrote 'Wrestling the Hulk -- My Life Against the Ropes' to help revive her career. She wrote that her husband abused her during their marriage and had homosexual encounters.

Honduras bans pillion passengers

THE Honduran Congress yesterday voted to ban motorcyclists from riding with passengers in a bid to curb a spate of drive-by killings.

The move follows two high-profile murders this week, both blamed on gunmen on motorbikes. Honduras has the world's highest murder rate: 82 per 100,000 people a year.

A surveillance camera showed 17-year-old Emmanuel Williams jump from his seat and rush to the front after seeing the driver's head go down.
