An Indonesian court has decided to go ahead with the trial of an American couple charged with murdering the woman's mother.

The badly beaten body of Sheila von Wiese-Mack, 62, was found in a suitcase in the boot of a taxi on the resort island of Bali last year.

Heather Mack, 19, and her boyfriend Tommy Schaefer, 21 - both from Chicago, are being tried separately with the same judges and prosecutors team at Bali's Denpasar District Court.

A three-judge panel said the prosecutors' indictment was qualified according to the law, over-ruling defence objections that it contained inaccuracies.

The judges, led by Made Suweda, ordered prosecutors to start preparing for hearings that resume Wednesday.
