Colin Firth's Mr Darcy swoon shirt heading for US display
It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single white shirt, a pond and a chiselled chest helped make actor Colin Firth a star as Mr Darcy in the BBC's version of Jane Austen's Pride And Prejudice.
In a scene that made fans swoon, he emerged in the sopping wet garment after a swim.
Now that shirt is coming to Washington as part of Will & Jane: Shakespeare, Austen, and the Cult of Celebrity, an exhibit on the posthumous fame of Shakespeare and Austen at the Folger Shakespeare Library from August 6 to November 6.
The shirt being displayed is one of several Firth wore while filming the 1995 mini-series.
