The owner of a daycare centre in Montana has ended up in hospital after allegedly fighting an intoxicated father who was barred from seeing his children.
Martha McClure was in charge of Francis Jackson's three children when he arrived last Wednesday and attempted to remove them from the daycare centre.
The three children, all aged under four, had been removed from Jackson's care and placed in the custody of the Department of Tribal Social Services. He was barred from seeing them.
McClure reported that she 'smelled alcohol' when Jackson arrived on Wednesday last week, and when she would not allow him to take the children he allegedly became violent.
Authorities said that McClure locked the children inside and headed out to confront Jackson after he began throwing things at the windows. She was armed with a shovel.
Deputy Lake County Attorney James Lapotka alleged that McClure and Jackson came to blows, with Jackson striking her in the face.
McClure's friend Osterwyk-McKnight told Buzzfeed that McClure had had surgery on Monday to repair damage to her eye socket and is currently suffering from double vision after the incident.
Osterwyk-McKnight launched a GoFundMe page for donations to cover McClure's medical bills, counselling and lost income.
Taking to the page she wrote: "Thank you for all you prayers and support". The fund currently stands at $19,655.
Jackson was arrested on Monday.
