HUNDREDS took off their pants yesterday as they gathered to go trousers-less on the subway to celebrate No Pants Day.
The No Pants Subway Ride is an annual event staged by comedy group Improve Everywhere every January in New York City. No Pants Day started 12 years ago as a prank by seven guys and has since then grown into an international celebration of silliness.
The idea is simple – pantless passengers board a subway at separate stops over the course of the day. The participants do not acknowledge each other and they all dress according to the weather, with hats, scarves and gloves. The one unusual thing about them is their lack of pants.
Staged over the course of a single afternoon, the sole purpose of the event is simply to make fellow – pant-wearing – subway passengers laugh and smile.
No Pants Day is not limited to New York with events taking place all over the world - London, Sofia and Mexico City all participated this year.
