PRESIDENT Hugo Chavez, the self-styled leader of South America's "Bolivarian revolution", left Venezuela for emergency cancer surgery yesterday, declaring that he was "preparing to face the worst".
Mr Chavez flew to Cuba for more treatment only four months after claiming to have achieved a full recovery.
Doctors are expected to perform another operation in his pelvic region to try to remove a lesion about an inch wide. Mr Chavez( 57), first disclosed that he had cancer last summer, for which he had surgery.
On Thursday, he told state TV viewers that in a dream, Jesus Christ "told me, 'Chavez, get up, it's not time to die". (© Daily Telegraph London)
