Spiders are pretty tiny creatures but a Huntsman spotted in Australia had the power to send one unfortunate motorist crashing into a lake.

A driver in New South Wales (NSW) will probably need a new car after his encounter with a creepy arachnid next to Lake Cathie.

The man became panicked after spotting the arachnid crawl out from a pile of rubbish as he headed to drop it off at his local tip.

He accidentally ended up in the lake after hitting the accelerator instead of the brake as he went around a corner.

“I meant to hit the brake but instead I accidentally hit the accelerator,” he told the Port Macquarie News.

He added: “I was surprised how deep it was.”

The motorist had to climb out of a window in his Toyota Prado car as the doors of the vehicle were locked.

He was treated at the scene for minor injuries, with NSW Rural Fire Service and paramedics attending the scene.
