A man portrayed in Chinese media as a hero for caring for his comatose girlfriend has been accused of causing her injuries after the woman woke up and told police he beat her with a rolling pin.
Liu Fenghe (24) promised to take care of 20-year-old Lin Yingying after a serious accident in 2014 left her in a vegetative state.
According to the South China Morning Post, charges are now being prepared against Mr Liu following a statement given to police by Ms Lin where she alleges her ‘doting boyfriend’ beat her so hard he put her into an eight month coma.

The young woman regained consciousness last May and alleges Mr Lin grabbed a heavy rolling pin and repeatedly struck her on the head after she accidentally burnt some bread in the bakery business they ran together.
Mr Liu, who had been paying his girlfriend’s medical treatment, objected to Ms Lin’s family visiting their daughter and had sought to prevent them from removing her from his care a few months prior to her waking up.

Once she work up and learned that she had been in a coma for almost a year, Ms Lin told her family that about the attack and revealed she had suffered similar abuse at the hands of Mr Liu before but had been too scared to tell anyone.
Her father encouraged her to report the crime, saying: "You have died once, what more are you afraid of? It's time to confront reality."
