New images of Japan tragedy emerge
JAPANESE authorities yesterday released dramatic new images of the 14-metre tsunami crashing into the Fukushima nuclear plant.
The dramatic pictures show how the plant's defences were overwhelmed by the March 11 disaster. Japan has promised a full and independent account of how the worst nuclear crisis since Chernobyl developed.
Workers in protective gear, including oxygen tanks, began inspections to stabilise the No3 reactor building, which had not been entered since March 11.
The workers had inspected reactors No1 and No2 before yesterday.
The massive earthquake and tsunami triggered nuclear-fuel meltdowns in reactors No1 and No2, and a hydrogen explosion that blew off the No3 reactor building's roof, operator Tokyo Electric said.
