Australian police said the 28-year-old died at the scene after being violently flung from the trolley.

The collision happened in the early hours of Tuesday in a suburban area of Sydney.

His friend and fellow passenger was taken to the Prince of Wales Hospital with critical injuries.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that the pair were travelling at speeds of almost 80 km/h during their journey.

Chief Inspector Chris Stiles told the newspaper that police believe the trolley went out of control. crossed to the wrong side of the road and collided with an oncoming car.

“It sounds like they might have had a bit of fun together, resulting in this terrible incident,” he said.

Local reports indicate the deceased man, from Sweden, was studying and working in Australia, and was joined by his friend, who was also Swedish, a week ago.

The driver of the car, a 45-year-old male, was uninjured in the accident.

Both he and a passing cyclist tended to the men until emergency services arrived at the scene.

Officers are continuing to investigate the crash.
