POLICE in Indonesia have confiscated a sex doll after villagers mistook it for a fallen angel.

It was found floating in the remote Banggai islands in Sulawesi province in March by a local fisherman.

He took it home where his family dressed it in a hijab and looked after.

Police intervened after rumours began to spread around the village that the 'angel' had divine powers and had stood up and cried.

The local police chief told news agency AFP that the villagers did not know what a sex doll was.

The doll was confiscated and taken to a local police station.
