A leading artist has decided to revamp Australia's currency, and added famous faces to the nation's legal tender.

The creative designs received widespread online support and were backed by of thousands of Australians.

"I decided to redesign Australia’s banknotes, featuring instantly recognisable personalities and cultural icons that present-day Australians love.

"And the results were glorious," said Melbourne artist Aaron Tyler.

He described the revamped notes as 'Dollarydoos'.

"Money is the foundation and fabric that holds society and civilisation together.

"If someone's face is stamped on that money, it's a pretty big deal, right? So why don't we know who's on ours?" he said.

"We see them every day, but most Australians don't even know who the people on our banknotes are.

"The time is right for a face-lift," Tyler said.

His re-imagined notes feature traditional Aussie staples like meat pies, a BBQ and a popular TV presenter's profile.

The clear plastic security windows on the notes also are changed, replacing historic landmarks with newer icons.
