A FOUR-lane highway has been built around an apartment block in China after residents refused to sign an agreement to allow their home to be demolished.
They said that the compensation was not enough to cover rebuilding costs. Their house is now the only building left standing on the road, which was paved through the village of Xiazhangyang, near Wenling in Zhejiang province.
Thousands of cars will soon be speeding past every day and the stubborn families said they could open up a drive-through shop.
Our pictures show Luo Baogen (inset) holding his land certificate as he stands next to his house in the middle of the newly built motorway in Wenling city.
