Gaffes galore on Aussie campaign trail

Here are some of the bigger gaffes made by candidates on the hustings across Australia.

Tony Abbott urges voters to support a female Liberal candidate because she has "a bit of sex appeal", which prompts former Labour leader Mark Latham to say Mr Abbott must have been wearing his "beer goggles".

Kevin Rudd (pictured) cuts himself while shaving, then takes a "selfie" photograph of it and tweets it to his million-plus followers.

In a video that went viral on the internet, Jaymes Diaz, a Liberal candidate, tells a television interviewer of his party's six-point plan to "stop the boats (of asylum seekers)" but then cannot recall any of the points, saying only: "Well, one of the points – the key point would be stopping the boats."

Mr Abbott declares that no one can be "the suppository of all wisdom".

Presumably, he intended to say "repository". (© Daily Telegraph, London)
