Female drivers are furious at new “women-only” parking spaces in China that help women who “struggle with parking”.
Parking lot officials at a Chinese parking lot designed spaces for women that are 50pc wider than other spaces and are painted pink.
According to China’s Qianjiang Evening News, the parking lot director Pan Zhuren said that he created the spaces to help women who were “struggling with parking”.
“Some didn't know how to reverse, and others parked recklessly, causing disorder. It’s part of measures we’ve introduced to humanise the service area."
The parking spaces were introduced in March but sparked issues of sexism on social media over the weekend.
“True respect for women entails letting women enjoy the same rights as men,” wrote one user on Weibo, China’s answer to Twitter.
Women-only parking spaces have been introduced in countries such as Australia, Switzerland, and Germany. In countries like Germany, however, spots were created to protect women from sexual assault and not because they “struggle to park”.
