An Australian Soap Opera actress has denied historical child sex abuse allegations levelled against her.

Maggie Kirkpatrick(74), who starred in Home and Away and 80's Soap Opera, Prisoner: Block H, is accused of indecently assaulting a 13-year old girl in the 1980's.

The former soap star has denied the claims made against her. She told the Herald Sun newspaper that the allegations are false.

"I need to go to court to have this ridiculous situation quashed. Allegations have been levelled at me, yes. Are they true? Absolutely not," she said.

Ms. Kirkpatrick, who is from New South Wales, had a lead role in Prisoner: Block H, which ran for 692 episodes from February 1979 to December 1986.

Police sources told the Herald Sun that the complainant was not involved in the entertainment industry.
