Anti-terrorism police and the University Of New South Wales (UNSW) have issued a security warning to staff and students of the University after anonymous threats of a shooting were made online.

The threats were made on a thread on the 4chan forum, and pertained to the Randwick campus of the UNSW.

The anonymous threat read "I finally managed to get a handgun. Australians, if you study at UNSW don't go in tomorrow".

In a statement, the college said that they are "treating this incident seriously and have been liaising with the NSW Police through the anti-terrorism and security group and Local Area Command".

The classes on campus are running as normal with the threats understood to be a hoax. However, any students that chose to leave for the day are being permitted to do so.

The post is eerily similar to one made on the site just before a gunman killed ten people at a community college in Oregon. An investigation is continuing.
