Australian airman dies after portaloo explodes while he is using it
A SERGEANT in the Royal Australian Air Force has lost his battle for life after a freak explosion in a portaloo during military exercises.
Michael Dunn dies in hospital in Brisbane from injuries sustained in the blast at Rockhampton Airport.
He was using the portaloo after possibly being exposed to a fuel spill, when it randomly ignited engulfing Sgt Dunnin flames.
He suffered third degree burns to his head, face, arms, chest and airways in the incident in July and passed away today.
RAAF chief Air Marshal Geoff Brown expressed his deepest sympathies to Sergeant Dunn's family.
“Sergeant Dunn was highly respected and well-liked by his colleagues. Those who visited Mick since the accident were all affected by the courage and determination that he showed during his treatment and are extremely saddened by his passing,” he said in a written statement.
