Zlatan Ibrahimovic's defiant Instagram post will have Manchester United fans feeling more positive about his injury

“One thing is for sure, I decide when its time to stop and nothing else.”

Things aren’t all that bad for Manchester United – a League Cup trophy, a Europa League semi-final and a 23-game unbeaten run in the league for example – but Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s knee injury was undoubtedly a huge blow to their season.

The Swedish striker, who has scored 28 goals in 46 appearances for Jose Mourinho’s team this year, suffered a cruciate knee-ligament injury in the Europa League quarter-final second leg against Anderlecht, which United won 2-1 to progress.

Zlatan’s injury is one of the most serious a player can suffer. But true to form, the 35-year-old is in no mood to give up just yet.

After thanking fans for their support, Zlatan adds: “One thing is for sure, I decide when its time to stop and nothing else. Giving up is not an option. See you soon”.

Strong words from the forward, whose contract at Manchester United runs out at the end of the season – there have been talks over extending his stay.

For this season however, it looks as though Mourinho will have to rely on these three – Anthony Martial, Wayne Rooney and Marcus Rashford – if he wants to secure a top-four finish or the Europa League title.

Will Zlatan still be at the club next year if Champions League football is on offer?
