In CCTV released by Wiltshire Police, the woman can be seen approaching the Barclays cash dispenser in Chippenham before removing her shoe and striking it repeatedly.

The incident happened shortly after midnight on Saturday, July 2, in the town's market place.

Officers said the woman stood at the cash machine for several minutes before launching her attack which damaged both the key pad and the screen.

Police are appealing to the public for help to identify the woman after the cash machine was rendered useless to other users.

Detective Constable Richard Gardner said: "This was a completely senseless and inane act which caused sufficient damage to make the machine unusable for other customers.

"I would like to hear from anyone who recognises the woman shown in the CCTV or who has any information in relation to this incident."

Anyone with any information or who recognises the woman shown in the CCTV is being urged to contact DC Richard Gardner on 0845 408 7000. Alternatively people can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
