A US National Guardsman had his Christmas interrupted by news that a vehicle had smashed into his house - in the exact same spot another one did nearly two years ago.

In February 2010, a runaway construction lorry ran into Doug Edmisten's house in Tennessee while he was home from Iraq for the birth of his son, The Knoxville News Sentinel reported.

Mr Edmisten said he, his wife and his son were visiting family this Christmas when his neighbour called and said: "Merry Christmas. There's a van in your house."

The van belonged to a neighbour, who told police he had been working on the vehicle's brakes.

On the last occasion, the Edmisten family spent 65 days in a hotel while the damage was repaired.

Mr Edmisten said they are now expecting to celebrate their son's second birthday in February at a hotel.
